Elan

Rhanite: How troublesome... we guys have figured it out. We have "sir" and we like it regardless
Fay P.: As usual, males are simple and to the point ;)
Rhanite: Simple is better ^^
Rhanite: No misunderstandings
Rhanite: No hassle, no wasted time
Rhanite: Efficiency!
Fay P.: Mhm :) Females do have a rather wider emotional range though, more attuned to emotions,so...their complexity is needed,child-breeders need to think ahead ;)
Rhanite: *has the emotional range of a fork* Yay!
Fay P.: I'm quite happy with that actually
Rhanite: Mm, leaves the processing power of my mighty, cutlerylike intellect for other tasks
Rhanite: like...
Rhanite: cooking
Rhanite: and...
Rhanite: eating delicious chili
Rhanite: Mmm....
Fay P.: Was more thinking something along the lines of "much easier to "rest" with a person who can put things in order instead of getting lost in different thoughts" but that will do too :P
Fay P.: Not that I'm necessarily always lost in thoughts but...well,I find men relaxing.
Fay P.: Some of them at least ><
Rhanite: Very astute, that - yes
Rhanite: Interesting point though
Fay P.: :)
Rhanite: So, in the realm of subjective thoughts on life: Winning. How important is it?
Rhanite: (the discussion came up in an interview I was watching, so I was curious)
Fay P.: Gimme the context. Winning in what?
Rhanite: Well, anything really
Rhanite: Games, finances, status
Rhanite: They're lauded as penultimately important, but are they?
Fay P.: I can only contribute my personal opinion on the matter :)
Rhanite: Well, isn't that all anyone truly can on these matters ^^
Fay P.: Yerp, but not everyone knows it *chuckles*
Rhanite: so very true
Fay P.: Well...winning. The mere word insinuates some sort of competition. To win,you gotta compare yourself against someone else, even more than one person. For me, that's a fundamental mistake right there.
Fay P.: Spending one's life trying to win against someone else...what a waste. We are all very different, and what is a weakness to someone is a strength to someone else.
Fay P.: There's a trap in competing : you may end up living the life of someone else, instead of yours.
Fay P.: If you always try to "win", you may find yourself doing things you're not interested in,just for the challenge.
Fay P.: Just to be able to say "mwaha,i won",IF you win.
Fay P.: And then what? To the next one? To always measur yourself agaisnt others?
Fay P.: Meaningless for me.
Fay P.: I may be happy with the arms of the man I love around me and not give a rat's arse about how much my handbag costs.
Fay P.: That to another woman's eyes may be failure.
Fay P.: Don't understand why I should feel bad or she should feel bad if to my eyes her life is hollow.
Fay P.: On top of that..
Fay P.: Insecurity reigns supreme in a person who always feels the need to "win".
Fay P.: He defines himself through the value he gets by getting measure against others, not from a solid, internal identity.
Fay P.: Hmm how to explain it..
Rhanite: Mm, allow me to play the devils advocate for a moment then...
Fay P.: Play then.
Rhanite: *plays*
Rhanite: Western society is arguably based on competetiveness, and without playing that game, you can't feasibly do... well, anything or enjoy the freedom that is so important to us. And by extension, competetiveness in it's basest principle, a part of our survival instinct, a part of our greasts strength and ingenuity that drives us to improve and invent and refine
Rhanite: So I propose it is a necessity
Rhanite: And inescapably ingrained into our social identity in this day and age
Fay P.: First of all,I think that human ingenuity and creativeness is primarily fuled by need.
Fay P.: fueled*
Fay P.: Need is that drives us.
Fay P.: The need to improve our life,in any and every way.
Fay P.: Not competitiveness.
Fay P.: Second,I don't understand what competition has to do with freedom.
Rhanite: Ah, but aren't we then competing against our limits? Against the circumstances we find ourselves in and against ourselves?
Fay P.: Again,I talk about competition,not...oh what s the word..
Rhanite: I'll concede the freedom thing was a tangent
Fay P.: That's not competition, that's the need that -some- people have to always exceed themselves.
Fay P.: That's different.
Fay P.: Winning, has to do with others.
Fay P.: When you try to overcome your personal limitations, that's part of who you are and your own personal development process.
Fay P.: It's a personal victory if you succeed, something that defines YOU, and was brought on by YOU. That,is solid identity. When we talk about winning,it's against someone else.
Fay P.: I understand the thrill,trully.
Fay P.: I'm a bad loser after all *chuckles*
Fay P.: I also understand it's complete lack of point too though.
Fay P.: If I know who I am and what I can do,if I have faith in myself,I don't need to flaunt anything.
Fay P.: I just am.
Fay P.: Will I be the best? No.
Fay P.: So what?
Fay P.: :)
Rhanite: So you'll be you - and by your definition that is the preferable outcome?
Fay P.: Christ,Elan, this is so the type of convo i love, really, stop me when it gets too much or we ll be talking for ever :P
Rhanite: Hehe I hate to be a parrot, but I was thinking the exact same thing ^^
Fay P.: *laughs*
Fay P.: And yes, that IS the preferrable outcome indeed.
Fay P.: Not an easy task, mind.
Fay P.: To be YOU, rid of family's /society's/culture's "commands"...hardest thing ever.
Rhanite: I wholeheartedly agree ^^ I find your answer very fascinating, I might add
Fay P.: :D
Fay P.: You enjoy talking about things like this?
Rhanite: I do indeed!
Rhanite: It beats the bland generic and let's be frank, hollow smalltalk of "HI HOW R U" by leaps and bounds
Fay P.: It so does! I'm pleasantly surprised,I love talks like this, just debating really.
Rhanite: Well exactly!
Fay P.: I'm really bad at talking randomly, the fan part, but these topics....I thrive on!
Fay P.: Hmm...all of a sudden I wish we could meet earlier lol!
Rhanite: This is where it gets fun... you get to reflect on your accumulated experiences and actually vocalize (or, you know... type out) the deductions and inductions you've made on a given subject. By doing so you make these thoughts "real" by defining them and giving them the shape of language and sharing them beyond your own mind. This in turn lets you reexamine them with another or others, and learn from yourself AND others all at once
Rhanite: *phew*
Rhanite: And heeh - I don't disagree ^^ but so much the more to look forward to ^^
Fay P.: Mhm hm,but still, that is a skill and,I'd even dare say a need that not all share. Some people are quite happy and feel secure when they've accepted or just adopted a certain set of behaviour/opinions/values, usually inherited by family, and swear by them and abide by them throughout their entire lives without having -any- need to ever even question them.
Fay P.: Not everyone can change.
Fay P.: To debate,to discuss,REAL matters, internal ones, you know...not just laugh about the latest gossip, takes a kind of intellect and well, bravery,to my eyes, that I really hope more and more people have.
Fay P.: Me included,as there's a number of topics I'm rather scared of touching so as not to burst my bubble *chuckles*
Rhanite: There is that, yes...
Rhanite: Blowing ones mind sucks
Fay P.: *chuckles*
Fay P.: See??
Fay P.: Simple and to the point!
Fay P.: Male minds! *hugs*
Rhanite: *cheers*
